Put a Little Color on You! March 1, 2011

This class likes doing things together as a group. They are more engaged, more creative and are more willing to try new things with the encouragement of their peers. Today's activity centered around color. The children were given bowls of clear liquid starch and trays of multicolored tissue paper. After a little experimentation, they discovered that the tissue paper made color. First they dipped the paper in the water bowls and watched as the clear liquid changed color. They picked the wet paper up in their hands and noticed that their hands changed color. They finally got the idea to put the tissue paper on their own white paper and used a paint brush to smear the starch over the tissue, creating color! In this multi-step, multi-modality exercise, the children became aware of different propertiesof the same material, different tools and different way to achieve a similar result.
